The search is on to find Australia’s best spoken word poet! Speak, sing, howl, whisper or sing your original poem at the South Australian heats of the Australian Poetry Slam, an electric live event where the audience is the judge.

Contestants are given two minutes to speak, scream, howl, whisper or sing their original poem on stage at one of five heats scheduled to take place at different locations around metropolitan Adelaide during the August – September period.

A superb start to the 2018 Slam season at the State Library of South Australia with a near capacity crowd and 24 poets registering. Sadly that meant 4 missed out. With Alison Bennett – Performance Poet as guest and inspiration, 20 poets shared their words and gave us their all! Following the very successful and inaugural Rumble SA slam program for poets 26 and under, Spoken Word SA is gearing up to kick off the South Australian component of the Australian Poetry Slam season with an official launch and its very first heat at 7pm Friday, 17th August at the State Library of South Australia.

Well that’s it for the 2017 SA Poetry Slam! Congrats to winner Andrew Drake and runner-up Chiara Gabrielli. They are both off to Sydney Opera House to compete in the National Poetry Slam.
