Contestants have 2 minutes to speak, scream, howl, whisper or sing their original poem. There are no props, no costumes, no music: just the poet and the words. A great first heat to kick off slam season 2020 with plenty of new faces and voices sharing the stage with some of our more seasoned regulars. Congratulations to all stepped up but there can only be one winner… and one runner up! So well done to Heat 1 Winner Chris Jaksa and Heat 1 Runner Up Tracey O’Callaghan who have earned their place at the SA Poetry Slam State Final on 17th October.

This year has thrown up some pretty serious challenges for the poetry / spoken word / slam community but we are pleased to announce that the Australian Poetry Slam is back for 2020.

At this stage, the SA heats and final of the slam are planned to go ahead as real-time, real-world live events in venues across town, assuming social-distancing / venue opening conditions do not become any more restrictive. However, all events will be adhering to a COVID-19 safety plan. And, of course, plans could change at any time if the situation deteriorates here in Adelaide.
