In 2023, flex your vocal chords with a new voice. Run with new leaders. Turn your moments of “…um” into MomentUm. Write new poetic revolutions. You’ve got two minutes on the mic. Build your MomentUm to crescendo and be heard.

Poetry Slams and wordshops are popping up around the nation. Australian Poetry Slam SA State Final hits the heights!

What a night!! A nearly full house at Goodwood Theatre saw all ten poets in the SA State Final bring their A-Game and deliver an amazing, diverse and ultra-high quality set of performances. We even had a ‘slam off’ for second place!! But only two poets can go to Sydney to represent SA. So congratulations to our Winner Sarah Almutairi and Runner Up Tracey O’Callaghan.

2021 SA Poetry Slam Finalists

Spoken Word SA hosts the South Australian heats and final of the Australian Poetry Slam.

Contestants have 2 minutes to speak, scream, howl, whisper or sing their original poem. There are no props, no costumes, no music: just the poet and the words. Judges are selected at random from the audience. The heat winners compete again in the SA State Final and the two top finalists then go to the Australian Poetry Slam National Showcase and Final in Sydney.

Heat 5 of the 2022 SA Poetry Slam at Jive was the final chance to compete for the SA State Final. We had a full card of poets competing, a large and lively audience, and a dead-heat / draw / tie for first place! Congratulations to joint winners, Teaghan Buggy and Britt Franzmann, who are both off to the State Final at Goodwood Theatre on 30th September.

Heat 4 of the 2022 SA Poetry Slam at Woodcroft Lbrary presented another stunning night of high quality performances. Congratulations to winner Matthew Panhurst and runner-up Karissa de Leeuw. They are both off to the SA State Final at Goodwood Theatre on 30th September. Thanks to everyone who came, took part, judged, or simply cheered on the contestants. Special thanks to the fabulous crew at the Woodcroft Library for supporting the prizes, providing a bar and snacks, and creating a strong and supportive vibe!

Another amazing night of poetry at Jive for Heat 3 of the 2022 SA poetry Slam!

Great performances all round and a large enthusiastic audience. Once again the scores were close, but congratulations to winner Lloyd and runner-up, Archer, both of whom will be off to the SA State Final at Goodwood Theatre on 30th September.

SA Slam 2022 Heat 1 brings in the quality!

What an incredible night of poetry! Heat One gave us entertainment, emotion, and extremely high quality of competition. There were so many poets that could have won it, but there can only be one winner and one runner-up.

Congratulations to our heat one winner Sarah Almutairi and our runner-up Grace Atta! They have booked their spot for the SA State Final on Friday 30 September at Goodwood Theatre.

HEAT TWO will be happening on Friday 26 August at Port Adelaide Library. We want to see as many of you there as possible!
