Institute Building, State Library of South Australia
Cnr North Tce and Kintore Ave, Adelaide.
A FREE workshop for ages 26 and under. Presented by Spoken Word SA in partnership with Arts South Australia, Writers SA and the State Library Of South Australia.
A diverse skill set is needed to be an accomplished spoken word performer. They include compositional skills (adapting vocabulary and grammar to the medium, developing an authorial voice, choice of poetic style), performance skills (vocal technique and phrasing, creating a unique stage presence, timing, memorisation, dealing with mistakes) and professional skills (meeting deadlines, working within event guidelines, building a public profile). If you are 26 or under please join us in this brand new initiative aimed at sharpening the skills of both developing and brand new young artists.
Join two time Australian Poetry Slam Finalist and Spoken Word SA co-director Kami McInnes and 2016 Goolwa Poetry Cup Winner Nico as they guide you in a free half-day workshop that will encourage you to create new work that can be developed, critiqued and rehearsed in the workshop environment. The Rumble SA will then offer participants an opportunity to showcase their work at a series of poetry slam performance events.
Nico is an energetic performer, approaching topics with a rhythmic musicality to engage the audience. Winner of the 2016 Goolwa Cup, Adelaide City Library’s August 2017 Poet In Residence and regular at Paroxysm Press events, Nico has also undertaken work for the Department of Environment, Water & Resources for a 2017 Open State event.
