Sarah Pearce is our special April 2018 Adelaide City Library Poet-in-Residence with her residency, Women Write Together.

This project is about women writing together, collaborating, borrowing, even stealing… Ever heard it and wished you’d written it? Ever deeply connected your own experiences to those described by a poet, a poem or a single line? Let’s do it! Let’s be inspired by Tempest, Bird, Plath, Smith, Dickinson and Sappho. Let’s borrow, build and converse, to create poems together, woven from multiple voices. Performance will also be collaborative, as we speak each others words.

A full house and 17 outstanding poets performing their work supported by Sacrificial Poet and MC, Kami, and Guest Poet, Alison Bennett.

Congratulations to winner Taeghan Buggy, 2nd place Holly Konopka and very close 3rd, Aislinn Rossi.

World Poetry Day Slam, 21st March

Another ‘for the fun of it’ poetry slam from Spoken Word SA.

This time to celebrate World Poetry Day and introduce you all to a cool, ‘open to all’ venue, The Little Red Door, up the good end of Hindley Street.

Prizes for first, second and third.

THE RUMBLE SA

Huge news for the young poets and spoken word artists of South Australia!

The Rumble SA is a youth poetry slam initiative from Spoken Word SA aiming to mentor, expand and strengthen the art of spoken word performance and slam poetry amongst younger artists (26 and under) in South Australia. And the actual slams are just one part of the deal!

SWSA is proud to support and adopt the recently released statement on Women in the Arts Workplace Safety.

With others in the arts community, we believe:

  • it is time for zero tolerance of sexual harassment, violence, entitlement, and sexist and transphobic behaviours and language.
  • the arts are not special and there is never a circumstance where someone should feel unsafe or silenced in the creation of art.
  • we 100% support and believe the brave people who have reported their experiences, whether publicly, privately or anonymously.

Join us in challenging ideas of the ‘weaker sex’ by examining some feminist poetry – then brainstorming some of your own.

It’s come time to say thank you for the great fun journey, but goodbye and farewell (at least for now) to Dymocks ‘Dead Poets Society’ live events run by Spoken Word SA at Dymocks in Rundle Mall.
