Spoken Word SA and the Adelaide City Library are proud to announce the successful applicant for the Poet in Residence Program for May 2019: Chiara Gabrielli.
We saw a great set of applications with a record number being submitted for just one place. But the program looks like being back in 2019 – 20 and there will be plenty more opportunities.

The Summer Slam 19 Final went off big time at Jive Nightclub! Congratulations to our winner Mika Friebel, runner up, Pam Makin, close third, Riley Kamp and all the fine wordsmiths who took part in this year’s events.
The SWSA Poet-in-Residence program has been running since 2014, offering poets a chance to explore their work in the settings of the Adelaide City Council City Library, using their facilities including digital archives, media lab, audio and visual facilities and more. From exploring the history of Polish immigrants in the city to lost-and-found objects and Ekphrasis (look it up, we did!), this residency gives poets a chance to step out of their comfort zone, engage the public and, most importantly, create new work.

The search is on to find Australia’s best spoken word poet! Speak, sing, howl, whisper or sing your original poem at the South Australian heats of the Australian Poetry Slam, an electric live event where the audience is the judge.
