Carissa Fischer, based on Kaurna Yerta, is a poet, writer, teacher, and Gemini whose work explores the vulnerable intersections and crossroads of their identity. With entering South Australia’s spoken word poetry scene at fifteen, they’ve honed the ability to approach vulnerable topics with sincerity through lyrical imagery and a dynamic yet candid performance style; their work fosters connection and familiarity among audiences. Carissa will be your guide, navigating differing themes and topics you wish to explore in your pieces! They taught successful workshops at the City of Adelaide’s Library, FEAST Queer Youth Drop-In, and Pure Funk Dance Studio. Their adaptive teaching style fosters an open and friendly environment, allowing opportunities for connection and collaboration within their workshops.

Arantza Garcia was the national winner of the 2025 Australian Poetry Slam. She started her journey right here at Woodcroft Library, as the runner up in the first heat of the South Australian leg of the competition!
