This heat is proud to be part of WordFest Onkaparinga 2025.
Who will become our next Australian Poetry Slam Champion as audiences vote in events around the country? The prize? They tour Australasia sharing their creative thoughts and inspiring people everywhere to speak their own poetry.
Poets: share an original poem for two minutes on the mic.
Audience: listen, cheer, vote with scorecards in this national celebration of spoken word.
There is a maximum of 20 poets per heat, so make sure to get there on time! Poems must be two minutes or under, no props, no costumes, just you and the power of your words. Click here for the full rules.

Guest Performer: CHELSEA AVARD

Chelsea Avard lives on the unceded land of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. She co-edited the short fiction and poetry anthology The Body and holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Adelaide where she taught across English, Creative Writing and the Social Sciences, and now works as Manager of the Student Academic Skills team. Her poetry, memoir, fiction, and literary criticism has appeared in TEXT journal, Sleepers Almanac, anthologies by Wakefield Press, University of Philippines Press, and Midnight Sun, and online magazines including Verity La and Red Fez. Her poem ‘How We Stay’ won the 2017 Verandah Literary Award.
