Playwright, director, performer, poet and winner of the 2023 State Slam Final at Goodwood theatre, Kathrine Sortini can add Guest Performer at Heat Three of the 2026 Australian Poetry Slam competition to her impressive bio.
Katherine Sortini (she/they) is a queer, first-generation Italian-Australian theatre maker, writer and spoken word artist. She is the founder of award-winning independent theatre company Deus Ex Femina and Creative Director of Feast Festival.
In 2025, Katherine received the Ruby Award for the Frank Ford Young Achiever Award, recognising her contribution to South Australian arts. She is the 2023 South Australian Spoken Word Champion and represented the state at the Australian Poetry Slam Finals at the Sydney Opera House.
Katherine has written, produced and performed acclaimed original works including All the Things I Couldn’t Say and Dirty Energy, both award-winning with sold-out seasons. In 2025, Deus Ex Femina presented the Australian premiere of Scenes with Girls in State Theatre Company South Australia’s Stateside Season. She is currently developing Beneath the Mountain. Her play Heroes was published by Currency Press in Intersection: Unleashed.
