Australian Poetry Slam SA Heat 2: August 26th, Salisbury Institute

Poetry slams are electric live events where the audience is the judge. Poets have 2 minutes to speak, scream, howl, whisper or sing their original poem for a chance at state and national glory.

It’s a 2.30 sign-up for contestants (20 only) – please read the rules. It will then kick-off at 3.00.

Our guest performer is Melbourne based spoken word artist extrodinaire and national Australian Poetry Slam finalist Abe Nouk. Abe is a spoken-word poet, hip hop fanatic, MC and author. Ten years ago Abe was illiterate when he and his family arrived in Australia as refugees from Sudan. Since 2011, realising his illiteracy, he began reading and writing to improve his lyrical content for hip hop music. Abe went on to come third in the Australian National Poetry Slam and has published two poetry collections, Humble and Dear Child. “Our scream for justice as kids in want of ice-cream was not heard, but the sound of love is at the tip of your pen provide the world with it.” See him in action here: http://www.wordtravels.info/abe-nouk/
